Shallow breathing is just a bad habit you can fix by sitting up straighter.

Then exhale through pursed lips for seven seconds, as if blowing through a thin straw, feeling your ribs draw back inward. The slow, resisted exhale is what loads the diaphragm most. Repeat for six full cycles. Do this twice a day.
